Cry Baby

Ryan Adams, Cambridge Corn Exchange 2006

Ryan Adams, Cambridge Corn Exchange 2006

[via FoxyTunes / Ryan Adams]

Cry baby is always how I hear people describe Ryan Adams. I have read stories of him walking off stage when an announcer accidentally calling him "Bryan Adams", as well as stories of him yelling at fans at his concerts for calling out songs they want to hear. Whatever his reputation I firmly believe that when he gets a song right he is one of the most gifted writers of our time. This is one of my favorite tunes of all time. Emmy Lou singing backup makes this haunting. Enjoy.

Artist: Ryan Adams
Song: Oh My Sweet Carolina

I went down to Houston
And I stopped in San 'Antone
I passed up the station for the bus
I was trying to find me something
But I wasn't sure just what
Man I ended up with pockets full of dust

So I went on to Cleveland and I ended up insane
I bought a borrowed suit and learned to dance
I was spending money like the way it likes to rain
Man I ended up with pockets full of cane

Oh my sweet Carolina
What compels me to go?
Oh my sweet disposition
May you one day carry me home

I ain't never been to Vegas, but I gambled up my life
Building newsprint boats I race to sewer mains
Was trying to find me something but I wasn't sure just what
Funny how they say that “some things never change”

Oh my sweet Carolina
What compels me to go?
Oh my sweet disposition
May you one day carry me home

Up here in the city feels like things are closing in
The sunset's just my light bulb burning out
I miss KENTUCKY and I miss my family
All the sweetest winds they blow across the south

Oh my sweet Carolina
What compels me to go?
Oh my sweet disposition
May you one day carry me home

My Morning Jacket

My Morning Jacket

[via FoxyTunes / My Morning Jacket]

I have been a fan of these guys since my brother, BD, said that I would enjoy the reverb. They have evolved through the years, as the band members changed, and Jim James just matured as a song writer. The new album is a look back at simpler times as well as a stab into the future. I have fallen in love with this particular tune because it makes me think. I am not sure if its because we are close in age or the fact that we were born in the same state in the same era but Jim always knows how to make me feel comfortable. When he writes songs I know where he is coming from. Enjoy.

Song: The Librarian
Artist: My Morning Jacket

Walk across the courtyard,
Towards the library.
I can hear the insects buzz on the leaves, 'neath my feet.

Ramble up the stairwell,
To the hall of books.
Since we got the interweb these hardly get used.

Duck into the men's room,
Combing through my hair.
When God gave us mirrors he had no idea.

Looking for a lesson
In the periodicals,
There I spy you listening to the AM radio.

Karen of the Carpenters,
Singing in the rain.
Another lovely victim of the mirror's evil way.

It's not like you're not trying,
With a pencil in your hair,
To defy the beauty the good Lord put in there

Simple little bookworm,
Buried underneath
Is the sexiest librarian.
Take off those glasses and let down your hair for me.

So I watch you through the bookcase,
Imagining a scene.
You and I had dinner,
Spending time when you sleep.
And what can I say to you,
Lying there in bed.
These words were the kiss I would play in your head.

What is it inside our heads
That makes us do the opposite,
Makes us do the opposite
Of what's right for us.
'Cause everything be great,
And everything be good,
And everybody gave,
Like everybody could.

Sweetest little bookworm,
Hidden underneath
Is the sexiest librarian.
Take off those glasses and let down your hair for me.
Take off those glasses, and let down your hair for me.

Simple little beauty,
Heaven in your breath.
Simplest of pleasures
The world at its best

GI Joe

When I first heard this dude I was like "Deastro was one of Cobra Commanders henchmen in GI Joe!" I then remembered that he was Bad Ass. I hope you feel the same about the song. I have been really stretching my 80's legs lately, lovin' some synth and this groove really hits the spot, although it was released last month. Enjoy.

Artist: Deastro
Song: The Shaded Forest

No Lyrics at this time Y'all I will update when I find them. I think you will like it anyway...

This is the Destro I remember...

Energy to Spare

Los Campesinos!

Los Campesinos!

[via FoxyTunes / Los Campesinos!]

This is a shocking song. It starts fast, it's fast in the middle, and of course is traveling at light speed by the time you need a cigarette at the end. I have really been digging these chaps lately. The frantic violin is fearsome. Enjoy.

Artist: Los Campesinos!
Song: ..And We Exhale And Roll Our Eyes In Unison

It's bad enough you ever use the word as an adjective
But to suggest we do it in heels is really quite crass
And frankly, we're reasonably practical
And we know the benefits of always doing these things in flats

And I spent the last seven years perched on the edge of my bed
Scratching 'I am incredibly sincere' into my forearms
You should know better

A fifteen year old's editorial, some lazy innuendo
(The last man standing is a girl)
Four sweaty boys with guitars tell me NOTHING about my life
And the earth's air pressure gets far greater when I hear you
You should try harder

It takes an educated guess to see I like you little at best
And if you come here for the faces, hope you leave under duress
And you still treat it like a novelty
Less pop concert more butchery
And we exhale, and roll our eyes in unison

And we exhale
And we roll our eyes
And we do these things in unison

And woe is me
And woe is you
And woe is us, together

And woe is me
And woe is you
And woe is us, together.
