Springzy

The sun is peekin' and the grass is greener. A new day. It's always good to start out a new season with a heartbreaking love song. Fresh air, the windows rolled down in your car, driving home from work, listening to this song (I suggest this). This whole album is strong. Enjoy...

Artist: Local Natives
Song: Airplanes

The desk where you sit inside of a
frame made of wood
I keep those chopsticks you had from when
you taught abroad in Japan

I love it all so much
I call
I want you back

I did not know you as well
as my father knew you
every question you took the
time to sit and look it up in the
encyclopedia

I love it all so much
I call I want you back

It sounds like we
would of had a great deal to say
to each other
I bet when I leave
my body for the sky the wait will
be worth it

Long In The Tooth

I hate getting older. My hairline isn't what it used to be, waistline either. Another drawback to getting older is realizing that maybe your parents knew more than you were willing to give them credit for. After a lifetime of "not getting" Neil Young (or why my Dad loved him so much), I heard this song and have come to the realization that he can write powerful lyrics that express love and longing as well as any other artist I respect. Enjoy...

Artist: Neil Young
Song: Unknown Legend

She used to work in a diner
I never saw a woman look finer
And I used to order just to watch her
Walk across the floor

She grew up in a small town
She never put her roots down
And daddy always kept movin'
so she did too

Somewhere on a desert highway
She rides a Harley-Davidson
Her long blonde hair
Flyin' in the wind

She's been runnin' half her life
The chrome and steel she rides
Collidin' with the very air that she breathes
The air that she breathes

You know it ain't easy
You got to hold on
She was an unknown legend in her time

Now she's dressin' two kids
Lookin' for a magic kiss
She gets the far-away look in her eyes

Somewhere on a desert highway
She rides a Harley-Davidson
Her long blonde hair
Flyin' in the wind

She's been runnin' half her life
The chrome and steel she rides
Collidin' with the very air that she breathes
The air that she breathes

She used to work in a diner
I never saw a woman look finer

Ya Hey Der!

Sometimes a song comes to you. Not through a friend or music store. It finds you because you need it. Did I just blow your mind? These songs found me, and are a great example from the Vancouver band Mother Mother. The album cover is a fish with a hook in it's mouth, and that's pretty much a great description of me after hearing just a few tunes from the O My Heart album. I am including two insanely catchy tunes from it. Take a listen. Also, You are welcome.

Song: Wrecking Ball
Artist: Mother Mother

I made a wreck out of my hand,
I put it through the wall.
I made a fist and not a plan,
call me a wreckless wrecking ball.
I threw my plates against the wall
and give it all I got.
I aim to break, not one but all,
I'm just a big ol' wrecking ball.
I am unruly in the stands,
I am a rock on top of the sand,
I am a fist amidst the hands
and I break it just because I can.
Dah dah dah dah.. oh oh..
It takes a dedicated hand
to put it through the wall.
You gotta wanna break the hearts
of all those pretty porcelain dolls.
You gotta wanna be the drummer in the band
You gotta wanna be a battle ring ram
You gotta see the artistry in tearing the place apart with me, baby..
I am unruly in the stands,
I am a rock on top of the sand,
I am a fist amidst the hands
and I break it just because I can.
Lets break it..
just because we can.
Deface it,
just because we can.
Lets break it..
Just because.. just because.. just because..
just becauussee.

I am unruly in the stands,
I am a rock on top of the sand,
I am a fist amidst the hands
and I make a wreck out of my hand.
I make a fist and not a plan
and I break it just because I can,
because I can.. because I can..
because I can.. because I can..
because I can.. because I can..
because I caaann...

Song: Ghosting
Artist: Mother Mother

I've been ghosting,
I've been ghosting along.
Ghost in your house,
ghost in your arms.
When you're tossing, when you turn in your sleep,
it's because I'm ghosting your dreams.
And this is why I have decided
to pull these old white sheets from my head.
I'll leave them folded neat and tidy
so that you'll know I'm out of hiding.
Yeaahh..
I've been ghosting,
I've been ghosting along.
Ghost in the world, ghost with no home.
I remember, I remember the days
when I'd make you oh so afraid.
And this is why I have decided
to leave your house and home unhaunted.
You don't need poltergeists for sidekicks.
You don't need treats,
and you don't need tricks.
You don't need treats.
You don't need tricks.
You don't need no Halloween..
You don't need treats,
you don't need tricks,
and you don't need me.
Heeyy..
Would it be so bad if I stayed?
I'm just a ghost out of his grave..
and I can make love in my grave..
I won't put white into your hair
I won't make noises in your stairs
I will be kind and I'll be sweet
if you stop staring straight through me..
And this is why I have decided
to pull these old white sheets from my head.
I'll leave them folded neat and tidy
so that you'll know I'm out of hiding.
And this is why I have decided
to leave your house and home unhaunted.
You don't need poltergeists for sidekicks.
You don't need treats,
and you don't need tricks.
you don't need treats,
you don't need tricks.
You don't need no halloween..
you don't need treats..
you don't need tricks..
you don't need treats..
you don't need no hallow's eve..
you don't need treats..
you don't need tricks..
and you don't need..
meeeee....

Across The Pond

Mumford & Sons

Mumford & Sons

[via FoxyTunes / mumford and sons]

Typically when I hear a banjo, I think bluegrass or country music...right?! Welcome to one of my new favorite bands from London. I really dig the way the music is like a wave...building stronger and stronger. I hope you like this, cause I sure do. Why cant I hear this music on the radio?

Artist: Mumford and Sons
Song: Little Lion Man

weep for yourself, my man,
you'll never be what is in your heart
weep little lion man,
you're not as brave as you were at the start
rate yourself and rape yourself,
take all the courage you have left
wasted on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head

but it was not your fault but mine
and it was your heart on the line
i really fucked it up this time
didn't I, my dear?

tremble for yourself, my man,
you know that you have seen this all before
tremble little lion man,
you'll never settle any of your score
your grace is wasted in your face,
your boldness stands alone among the wreck
learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck

but it was not your fault but mine
and it was your heart on the line
i really fucked it up this time
didn't I, my dear?
