The End Song

neutral milk hotel

neutral milk hotel

[via FoxyTunes / Neutral Milk Hotel]

From the moment I heard this song I knew that I wanted to put it in my movie. When I get around to making said movie this song will start to play at the very end...after I have saved the girl and the credits start to roll. This is going to be the first in a series of "Songs That Will Be In My Movie(s)" posts.

Song: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Artist:Neutral Milk Hotel

What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
What a beautiful dream
That could flash on the screen
In a blink of an eye and be gone from me
Soft and sweet
Let me hold it close and keep it here with me

And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I'm keeping here with me

What a curious life we have found here tonight
There is music that sounds from the street
There are lights in the clouds
Anna's ghost all around
Hear her voice as it's rolling and ringing through me
Soft and sweet
How the notes all bend and reach above the trees

Now how I remember you
How I would push my fingers through
Your mouth to make those muscles move
That made your voice so smooth and sweet
But now we keep where we don't know
All secrets sleep in winter clothes
With one you loved so long ago
Now he don't even know his name

What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
And when we meet on a cloud
I'll be laughing out loud
I'll be laughing with everyone I see
Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all

Radio is Fuzzy

...as she drove away ,she yelled-"i'll always love you"

[via FoxyTunes / Jim White]

This song has some great imagery and an interesting view on where we seem to get all of our information. I love the low key delivery...and the cameo by Aimee Mann.

Song: Static on the Radio
Artist: Jim White

3 A.M. I’m awakened by a sweet summer rain… distant howling of a passing southbound coal train. Was I dreaming or was there someone just lying here beside me in this bed? Am I hearing things? Or in the next room, did a long forgotten music box just start playing? And I know ¾ it’s a sin putting words in the mouths of the dead. And I know ¾ it’s a crime to weave your wishes into what they said. And I know — only fools venture where them spirits tread. ‘Cause I know ¾ every word, every sound bouncing ‘round my head. Is just static on the radio. Everything I think I know is just static on the radio. Midnight rendezvous with a pretty girl, wearing a torn and tear-stained gown. Like a ghost ship she appeared from nowhere on a lonely highway and flagged me down. I gave her a lift downtown to the Greyhound station and in the flicker of the neon lights, she kissed me goodbye, and in the mirror of her eyes I saw my own reflection. And I know ¾ the blind will sometimes lead the blind. And I know ¾ through shadow lands and troubled times. And I know ¾ forsaking love, we seek the signs. And I know ¾ of truths forever hid behind. The static on the radio. Everything I think I know is just static on the radio. Now there’s a church house about a stone’s throw down from this place where I been staying. It’s Sunday morning, and I’m sittin’ in my truck listening to my neighbor sing. Ten years ago I might have joined in, but don’t time change those inclined to think less of what is written than what’s wrote between the lines? ‘Cause I know ¾ dreams are for those who are asleep in bed. And I know ¾ it’s a sin putting words in the mouths of the dead. ‘Cause I know ¾ for all my ruminations I can’t change a thing. Still I hope ¾ there’s others out there who are listening. To the static on the radio. Everything I think I know is just static on the radio. Ain’t praying for miracles, I’m just down on my knees. Listening for the song behind everything I think I know. Everything I think I know is just static on the radio. Everything I think I know is just static on the radio

No. Not all Country music has lyrics like a Hallmark card.

[via FoxyTunes / Neko Case]

Artist: Neko Case
Song: Hold On

The most tender place in my heart is for strangers
I know it's unkind but my own blood is much too dangerous
Hangin' round the ceiling half the time
Hangin' round the ceiling half the time

Compared to some I've been around
But I really tried so hard
That echo chorus lied to me with its
"Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on"

In the end I was the mean girl
Or somebody's in-between girl
Now it's the devil I love
And that's as funny as real love

I leave the party at three a.m.
Alone, thank God
With a valium from the bride
It's the devil I love
And that's as funny as real love
And that's as real as true love

That echo chorus lied to me with its
"Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on"

That echo chorus lied to me with its
"Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on"

Summer Esta Aqui

Ted Leo

Ted Leo

[via FoxyTunes / Ted Leo]

For some reason this song makes me think of summer. I have been listening to Ted Leo for a few years now and the new album is very accessible to new fans. He does have a political hardon, but he still makes rockin' music. I guess the best way to describe Senor Leo is passionate.

Artist: Ted Leo and The Pharmacists
Song: La Costa Brava

I've been seeing the same old things,
And I've been hearing you saying some things that you don't mean.
Everyone needs a sunday some days, everyone needs to take some time away.
So come on home from the front lines, baby,
You know you've done more than your time there was supposed to have been.
A little time out could turn your head 'round,
A little time out could lift us our of the mess we're in.
And down by the beach there's a small cafe,
Where we'll hang on for Joan and drink Bonet all day.
So come on over to St. Feliu 'cause it's somewhere I've been and I want to take you there.
You know that waking up to the daily blues from
Waking up to the daily news ain't nothing strange.
Everyone gets to feeling weak,
But if everyone gets to take a week and change their pace...
You travel west 'til you hit Girona, I'll travel east out of Barcelona,
And I'll meet you halfway.
One day and night on La Costa Brava, we'll forget the fright,
And remember why we want to be brave,
(and that there's something to save)
Like down by the beach there's a veg cafe,
Where we'll meet Lolo and Pablo and drink Moritz all day.
So come on over to St. Feliu 'cause it's somewhere I've been and I want to take you there.
We'll meet Berta, and Daniel, and Remy, Celine, and Mike, Adriana, Padi, and Aziz,
And Maurix, Maria, and Laura, Tule,
And Sherry and Pau, Jodie, and Paul,
I hope Neil is OK...

Great Cover

Dr. Dog @ The Middle East - Cambridge, MA - 4/26/07

[via FoxyTunes / Dr. Dog]

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the band Dr. Dog is covering here, but they definitely make this song their own. After listening to both versions, This one wins hands down. Let me know what you think..

Song: Heart It Races
Artist: Dr. Dog

and we slow to acknowledge the knots in the laces
heart it races!

and we go back to where we moved out to the places
heart it races!

i bought it in a can and stirred it with my fingers
threw it out the window
lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter
looks like little splinters

i sold it to a man
and threw him out that window he went boom
made his wife a widow

heart it races!

Wishful Singing

Leslie Feist

Leslie Feist

[via FoxyTunes / Feist]

The new Feist album is fantastic, this song in particular i like. Personally it reminds me of my parents. They moved us from the "old dirt road" (Kentucky) to a little "Second floor living without a yard" in Chicago. That, my friends, was a culture shock. Still one of the bravest things two parents ever did, and I thank them for it. I'm still waiting for my pay to catch up to my dreams though. Enjoy.

Song: Mushaboom
Artist: Feist

Helping the kids out of their coats
But wait the babies haven't been born
Unpacking the bags and setting up
And planting lilacs and buttercups

But in the meantime I've got it hard
Second floor living without a yard
It may be years until the day
My dreams will match up with my pay

Old dirt road
Knee deep snow
Watching the fire as we grow old

I got a man to stick it out
And make a home from a rented house
And we'll collect the moments one by one
I guess that's how the future's done

How many acres how much light
Tucked in the woods and out of sight
Talk to the neighbours and tip my cap
On a little road barely on the map

Old dirt road
Knee deep snow
Watching the fire as we grow old
Old dirt road Rambling rose
Watching the fire as we grow well I'm sold
