Hopeless Romantic

Peter Bjorn and John

This is another random song that popped up in my collection that just screams to be heard. Its a cover of another great band called "The Concretes"..but I think that PBandJ does a great job making it their own. I will be getting back to my "Songs That Will Be In My Movie(s)" in the future. Over the last few posts I began to think "Hey... my movie doesn't sound very original". This just wont do. So I have decided to put more effort into making something that is from my imagination and not someone else's. Anyhoo I love the energy in this tune..hope you do too.

Artist: Peter Bjorn and John
Song: Teen Love

I hope everything's alright with you
Maybe I should go and see about you
Collect some love, if you don't mind
Collect some love, if you don't mind, no

My heart it grows

I smile a second, then it's gone
When I realize I'm all alone
Why is it so hard? No, I won't cry
Why is it so hard? No, I won't cry

My heart it grows

Fallin'
Fallin' in
I've fall'n in love with you

Carry me home, the night is dark and long
I think I'm done with all the people taking part
So I move much closer, I don't mind
And I leave a mark on your face, I don't mind, no

My heart it grows

Fallin'
Fallin' in
I've fall'n in love with you

Fallin'
Fallin' in
I've fall'n in love with you

Fight Scene

Elvis Perkins

Elvis Perkins

[via FoxyTunes / Elvis Perkins]

Our hero at some point meets his true love. Of course this scares him, and he runs away from his feelings and responsibly to someone else. As he tears down the life he has worked hard to build, burns his bridges, breaks her heart, I envision this song playing. As he goes from fear to rage to the slow realization that he has ruined two lives our hero observes that he has been sleeping. This is the third song from my "Songs That Will Be In My Movie(s)" posts. Lately I have been listening to this artist and though very somber he conveys a hope with his lyrics that I really enjoy.

Song: While You Were Sleeping
Artist: Elvis Perkins

while you were sleeping
the babies grew
the stars shined and the shadows moved
time flew, the phone rang
there was a silence when the kitchen sang
its songs competed like kids for space
we stared for hours in our maker's face
they gave us picks
said go mine the sun
and go gold and come back when you're done
while you were sleeping
you tossed, you turned
you rolled your eyes as the world burned
the heavens fell, the earth quaked
i thought you must be, but you weren't awake
no, you were dreaming
you ignored the sun
you grew your power garden
for your little ones
and you found brides for them on christmas eve
they hung young cain from the adam trees
and danced
while you were sleeping
i tossed and i turned
til i closed my eyes
but the future burned
through the planet turned a hair gray
as i relived the day
while you were sleeping
the money died
machines were harmless and the earth sighed
through the wind you slept sound
and gravity caught my love around
the ocean rose, sang about decay
while witches flew
and the mermaids stayed
full of dreams, you overslept
and keeping with quiet, through the walls i crept
i walked on tiptoe, sent darkness swirling over all the kitchen in the early morning
i'll never catch up to you
who sleeps so sound
my arms are useless
my heart beats too loud to go to sleep
my mind's too proud to bow out
while you were sleeping
the time changed
all your things were rearranged
your vampire mirrors face to face
they saw forever out into space
and found you dreaming in black and white
while it rained in all the colors of the night
i watched the tvs
memories
championships
vanished to sea
could it be, my honey between you and me
so i waited for the riddled sky
to dissolve again by sunrise
and i've made a death suit for life
for my father's ill widowed wife
did you have that strangest dream before you woke
cos in your gown you had the butterfly stroke
did it escape you like some half told joke?
when you reached for your plume of smoke
it'll haunt you, my honey bee
anyone who is anyone has that same dream
were you falling
were you flying
and were you calling out
or were you dying
thank god you're up now
let's stay this way
else there'll be no mornings
and no more days
cos when we're dreaming
our babies grow
the sun shines
and the shadows flow
time flies
the phone rings
there is a silence
and everybody tries to sing

Inspiration

clem snide

[via FoxyTunes / Clem Snide]

I will get back to my "Songs That Will Be In My Movie(s)" posts next time. Today I wanted to share a song that due to some inspiration this week I felt was appropriate. This is a terrific tune that says a lot...and you can easily sing along....

Song: Fill Me With Your Light
Artist: Clem Snide

A true seduction’s what it is
The parts are neither hers nor his
I would prefer you don’t remove your gloves

The instruments shaped like a pear
The inside lined with rabbit hair
If you squint your eyes it seems to fit

Fill me with your light
I will not make a sound
Always throw the fight
And take it lying down

If you wear the mermaid’s suit
There’ll be no sliding down your chute
My sailors left to flounder in your wake

See the bubble, it goes pop
A false start, an unlikely stop
I’m not convinced of anything I say

Fill me with your light
I will not make a sound
Always throw the fight
And take it lying down

There’s a different kind of dark
The kind that stops the dogs to bark
It never has to wait for setting suns

Inside the egg finds pantyhose
And holds ‘em right up to your nose
The energy must somehow be absorbed

Fill me with your light
I will not make a sound
Always throw the fight
And take it lying down

The Big City

sufjan stevens 2

sufjan stevens 2

[via FoxyTunes / Sufjan Stevens]

The scene is this...Our hero, as a young man, is moving from the hills of Kentucky to the big city of Chicago. This song starts when they are on the interstate (I 90?) when the hero starts to see the city. The song begins in the south suburbs as he slowly moves (due to traffic..which is new to him) towards the city. The songs end culminates with our hero's arrival at his new "Big City' apartment. This is song two in a series of "Songs that will be in my movie(s)" posts.

Song: No Man's Land
Artist: Sufjan Stevens

Up in the highest of heights
O'Hara blinks and fights
This land is yours; this land is mine.
I see the Captain in red,
and Cairo at his head.
This land is yours; this land is mine.

The lightning over the park,
the waters--brash and dark
We take a swim; we take a swim.
I never meant to escape
the carpet and the trade
This land is yours; this land is mine.

And when I make up my mind
I change it all the time
I take it back; I take it back.
The numbers over the dam,
Jo Davies and the band,
I count them out; I count them out.

There was a car in the bay
by the boat that swept and swayed
Whoever you are in the light
in the water that we made
I'm counting it out
I'm counting it out
I'm working it out inside
I'm counting it out
to the floor

The ferry hatches Moline
Panola Beauty Queen
She takes a bow; she takes a bow.
In Charles, we climb the hill
and Danville window sill
I take it back; I take it back.
My sister she counts the bars,
the Macon county cars,
She takes a bow; she takes a bow.

The Mississippi amends
the Carver and the bends
This land is yours; this land is mine.
My brother punches my ear.
The injured ivory deer
I call my dad; I call my dad.
We skip inside of the store
the Mason winter door
This land is yours; this land is mine.

There was a car in the bay
by the boat that swept and swayed
Whoever you are in the light
in the water that we made
I'm holding your hand by the shore
With our collars pulled up tight
I'm counting it out
I'm counting it out
I'm working it out inside
I'm counting it out

(This land is not your land
For the right hand takes what it can,
ransacks with the mad man.
For this land is not yours or mine to have.
This land was made for the good of itself.)
